hi! i had a great time at SPX this year, and i thought it would be good to talk a few of the comics i picked up this year at SPX that i think you folks might enjoy:
Travelogue, by Aatmaja Pandya! travelouge is available to read as a webcomic and is a heartfelt, thoughtful treat, and drawn so so beautifully, it's comprised of all the thoughtful little moments that i think belong at the heart of any story
Lost Haven by Carey Pietsch! Lost haven is the kind of witch story i like best. it's incredibly genuine and tells its story with absolute clarity and effectiveness. lost haven made me cry a little!!
Radishes by Carolyn Nowak! radishes takes place in a fantasy world that's both inventive and familiar and the characters absolutely shone. radishes felt so true to real feelings, i wish i'd had it when i was the age of its characters
Big Game Hunter by Natalie Reiss! Big game hunter is a minicomic that shows how strong nat is at creature design (SO STRONG). definitely read her comic, snarlbear, which i read every single time it updates. Big game hunter hints at the kind of complex morality and monster fighting that snarlbear explores in greater depth
Megan Brennan's pencilpup mini had all the charm and surreality and humor of the pencilpup webcomic, which you should read for sure, pencil pup has a fantastic sense of humor and a sense of crawling dread that i love
Sara Goetter did a bunch of super charming and funny journal comics called Haha Okay, and i stay up to date with her webcomic Boozle because it's adorable and has absolutely rock-solid humor and cartooning. Sara draws with tons of energy and her timing is always right where it needs to be
amanda scurti traded me for MMO RPG BBZ which is absolutely hysterical
My pal Esabelle Ryngin wasn't able to get to SPX this time, but sent me a print copy of their bug minicomic with a friend, which was so thoughtful. it's an informative mini about dung beetles! their comic perish the thought is adorable and has fantastic character interactions
thats just a few of the good comics that were there, obviously
I hope youll give em a look!
